Giants’ Michael Conforto Lands on 60-Day Injured List, Season Doubted

Conforto’s Return is Uncertain

The San Francisco Giants announced Monday that outfielder Michael Conforto has been placed on the 60-day injured list with a right calf strain. The move is a significant blow to the Giants, who were counting on Conforto to be a key contributor in their lineup this season.

Conforto, 29, signed a two-year, $36 million contract with the Giants in the offseason after spending the first seven seasons of his career with the New York Mets. He was expected to be the Giants' primary designated hitter and play left field on occasion.

However, Conforto has been sidelined since the beginning of the season with the calf injury. He suffered the injury during a spring training game and has not played in a regular season game yet.

Giants’ Hopes Dwindling

The Giants are now 19-31 this season and are in last place in the National League West. The team has struggled to score runs and has been plagued by injuries.

Conforto's injury is a major setback for the Giants, who are already without several other key players, including Brandon Belt, Evan Longoria, and Anthony DeSclafani.

The Giants are hopeful that Conforto will be able to return at some point this season, but his return is uncertain. The team will likely have to make some adjustments to their lineup in the meantime.

Conforto’s Career Derailed by Injuries

Conforto has been a productive player when healthy, but injuries have limited him to just 141 games over the past three seasons.

In 2019, Conforto hit .257 with 33 home runs and 92 RBIs. He followed that up with a .232 average, 12 home runs, and 41 RBIs in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

Last year, Conforto missed the first half of the season with a hamstring injury. He returned to hit .273 with 14 home runs and 55 RBIs in 92 games.

Giants’ Season in Jeopardy

The Giants' season is in jeopardy without Conforto in the lineup. The team is already struggling to score runs and has been plagued by injuries.

The Giants will need to find a way to replace Conforto's production in the lineup and hope that he can return at some point this season.
