Champai Soren Becomes 7th Chief Minister of Jharkhand

Prominent Tribal Leader and Politician Takes the Helm

WEB Champai Soren, an experienced politician and prominent tribal leader from Jharkhand, has been sworn in as the state's 7th Chief Minister. The 67-year-old leader was sworn in on Friday, 2 February 2024, succeeding Hemant Soren.

Soren, a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), secured the support of 47 MLAs, including those from his own party, the Congress, and smaller allies. The formation of the new government had been delayed due to allegations of horse-trading by the opposition BJP, which the JMM and the Congress have refuted.

Soren has been a vocal advocate for tribal rights and has played a significant role in the state's politics. He is known for his strong leadership and his commitment to social justice and economic development for all Jharakhand's citizens.
