Liverpool into Carabao Cup semi-finals after dominant display against West Ham
Goals from Salah, Núñez and Jota seal victory
Liverpool cruised into the Carabao Cup semi-finals with a dominant performance against West Ham at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Mohamed Salah gave the Reds an early lead from the penalty spot, before Darwin Núñez doubled the advantage midway through the second half. Diogo Jota added a third in the closing stages to seal the victory.
Liverpool were in control from the start and created a number of chances in the opening minutes. Salah fired wide early on, before Trent Alexander-Arnold saw a shot saved by Alphonse Areola.
The Reds eventually made the breakthrough in the 16th minute when Salah converted from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Emerson Palmieri. Liverpool continued to dominate possession and could have extended their lead before the break, but Núñez and Jota both missed good chances.
Liverpool started the second half brightly and doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Núñez headed home a cross from Andy Robertson. The Uruguayan striker could have added a third shortly after, but he fired wide from a good position.
Jota made sure of the victory in the 85th minute when he tapped home from close range after a cross from Salah. The goal was the Portuguese forward's first since returning from injury.
Liverpool will now face Fulham in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. The first leg will be played at Anfield on January 3, with the second leg taking place at Craven Cottage on January 10.
